CASP commissions Maria Thompson Corley

December 5, 2021

Canadian Art Song Project is very pleased to announce the commissioning of Maria Thompson Corley. She will be composing a group of songs for soprano Jonelle Sills (jonellesills.com), setting commissioned texts by Kanika Ambrose (kanikaambrose.com), Christene Browne (christenebrowne.com) and the composer, who is also a published writer.

Dr. Corley is a Jamaican-born Canadian who is now based in the U.S. She was raised in Alberta and received both Masters and Doctorate degrees in piano performance from the Juilliard School. In addition to her performing she is a commissioned composer and arranger with works for solo voice / piano and chorus.  Her works are best obtained by contacting her directly through her website: mariacorley.com.

Kanika Ambrose and Christene Brown are both accomplished writers and librettists. Jonelle Sills is a striking new talent who was named one of Canada’s 30 hot classical musicians under 30 in 2020 by CBC Music. We are very excited about this developing project and look forward to announcing the premiere in the coming coming months.
